The Devil Came On Horseback

If you've seen this, you know it's not a fun watch. But genocides kind of are difficult that way. There is a part in the documentary, Born into Brothels, where a boy looking at a picture says, "this is a good picture, we get a good sense of how these people live. And though there is sadness in it and though it's hard to face, we must look at it because it is truth." I feel the same way about this doc. We must look, because it is truth, and it remains regardless of our awareness of it:

Neil,

I've seen both of these documentaries and I agree they are both difficult to watch. What I took away from "The Devil Came on Horseback" is the huge political roadblocks existing to make any sort of change in these regions. Your comments above state that we must look and that it remains to be true regardless of our awareness of the issue. Awareness and looking at it isn't the solution. The right people, the powerful people are being made aware and nothing is happening. You saw in the doc. that people from Condi Rice to every news program in the US were being made "aware". I hope that "awareness" is the starting block and these pictures and documentaries aren't just a source for selling more newspapers.

Agreed.

You probably didn't think I was going to respond to this did you? If there is one policy I have about blogging Glade, it's to always respond to comments within 24 months. ALWAYS.
